Howard, a were-bear, wants revenge against the shifter that caused him so much personal turmoil and who is still attacking the innocent. But when things don't go as planned, he learns that his need for retaliation may cause him the woman he's secretly been pining for. Elsa never thought her latest home renovation project would lead her to the man of her dreams. Howard makes her feel feminine and beautiful, something that isn't easy with her large size. Just when things are looking up, a curse she doesn't want to believe in threatens to ruin everything.
In the past, Howard has been a doughnut loving sweetheart. Here, we see different sides to him. He craves revenge and when it came to pursing Elsa, he's a determined romantic. I loved getting to know Howard. He's a man with a wicked sweet tooth who can be counted on but he's also lethal and cunning when chasing Rhett Bleddyn, a were-wolf that caused his exile from his own clan among other things. Then he when he was with Elsa, he's a cute, dorky romantic hoping to win her heart. Nothing but pleasant surprises from him and I enjoyed every one of them.
Elsa is a tall woman with a healthy figure. No man has ever made her feel delicate or recognized that romance to her isn't tickets to a wrestling match, until Howard. Problem is, Howard's touch activated a family curse that has her aunts' fearing for her life. I've gone back and forth on how I feel about Elsa. She's easy to like and I appreciate a heroine who isn't physically willowy and doesn't mind getting her hands dirty. My issue was that she played hot and cold with Howard, stating the curse that she claims to not believe in as the reason he needed to stay away. Eventually, she lets her heart take over but I couldn't forget that she kind of stringed him along because of something she repeatedly denied believing in.
Alongside the budding romance was a bit of suspense, which was added by the aforementioned curse and Rhett Bleddyn. Fans of the series had the unfortunate pleasure of meeting Rhett in the previous book when he planned to kill Phil and Bryn's family. Well, Rhett is back and even more despicable once you learn of his history with Howard and what he's willing to do to best him. The seriousness of these plots is excellently interwoven with the silliness that takes place during Howard courting Elsa, making for well-balanced read.
A couple series regulars are back to help aid Howard in his fight against Rhett and help to keep him on track with Elsa. Phil, Shanna, and her adorable son Tino all help Howard one way or another. There are a few parts of the story that are told through Shanna's POV and while I appreciated the update, I didn't really feel all her scenes were necessary and at times they took away from the momentum of the book.
After getting off to a kind of slow start, Wild About You soon picked up the pace and ended up being entertaining and sweet. It's hard to choose one favorite character but Howard is definitely one of the highlights in this series.
