Hi everyone! My thanks to Stephanie and Athenna for letting me be part of this great event.
My character in the Mortal Path series, Maliha Crayne, is a woman who sold her soul to a Sumerian demon as she was being burned alive as a witch in Colonial America. She had it all: immortality, power, youth, beauty, and wealth, and all she had to do was serve as the demon's assassin, killing innocent people. For hundreds of years she lived that decadent life, until she began to see the effects of her actions, not only on her victims, but the global ripples of for example, killing a peacemaker in a wartime situation.Eventually she rebels against her demon and becomes a rogue, no longer following orders but with her soul still held hostage.
Now she's working to earn back her soul by saving as many lives as she's taken under the demon's direction, trying to balance the scale of right and wrong that was carved into her body by the demon's claw. Maliha's a superbly trained woman of action, comfortable with her weapons but struggling with her relationships.
Maliha's fighting outfit could easily serve as her Halloween costume. She might win the prize for the sexiest costume at the party, but I can't picture her bobbing for apples. Those "prop" swords have quite an edge to them, too-I wouldn't try stealing any of her candy!
I thought I'd try something a bit different for Halloween at the Haven. I've written a paranormal short story, "Deadline," seen here for the first time, with a Halloween theme. It doesn't involve Maliha, because nothing about Halloween would scare her, and that wouldn't make for a very good story! The fun part is that there are two endings to this story. You get to choose which one you like and let me know. Just click on the drippy Deadline above to read the story. (Is that blood? Yes!) Then leave a comment here mentioning your choice of Ending 1 or Ending 2 to enter the drawing for the international giveaway, a Mortal Path Swag Bag containing a tote bag, three signed books, a calculator, pens, magnets, and bookmarks. Read event rules and guidelines before entering.
