I am so excited to be celebrating Halloween at the Haven! Talk about a fun time. ;)
At Halloween, I love to watch long, scary movie marathons, I love to bake wicked treats, and, of course, I love to tell ghost stories. Those stories that give you a shiver and make you tense up when you hear the scratch of a branch against your window. The stories that keep you awake as you wonder…what if?
Do you remember the old story about the man with the hook? He snuck up on the couple who were making out in the woods, but—luckily for them—they drove away before he could attack. They drove away, and when the boy walked around his car later that night, he found a bloody hook hanging onto it.
Or maybe…do you remember the story about the young man who picked up a beautiful hitch-hiker one dark and lonely night? The girl only wanted to get home, but when our good Samaritan arrived at the girl’s house, the hitch-hiker vanished. It seemed the poor girl had died years ago, and but her ghost was still trying to get back home.
When you’re sitting in a dark room or you’re out in the dark woods, these stories can send shivers down your spine. Or at least, they made me shiver over the years.
It’s because of those shivers that I now write paranormal romances. I think I became addicted to the monsters in the night at a very early age. Only, I didn’t want my monsters to be the bad guys. I wanted to make those monsters into heroes and heroines—and that’s exactly what I did. Now my werewolves and my fallen angels are the ones that readers can root for in my tales. Okay, they can cheer for these characters and—yes, I’ll confess—maybe they can fear them a bit, too.
After all, what’s a good tale without a little fear?
I’d love to know your favorite scary story or scary movie. What is a must-see flick for you during Halloween? What tales make you shiver? I’ve got two prizes to giveaway—one is a $15 Amazon.com gift card, and the second prize is a copy of my December release, ANGEL IN CHAINS. Here’s the blurb for ANGEL IN CHAINS (so you’ll know what you might win!):
***
As a fallen Angel of Death, Azrael is cursed to walk the earth alone in search of redemption. One night, as he wanders the streets of New Orleans, he discovers a woman surrounded by panther shifters. No longer able to contain the anger simmering within, Az summons his dark powers and attacks, determined to protect this innocent human from certain death.
Only Jade Pierce is no delicate flower. She’s spent years learning to survive and fight the evil forces sent by her ex-lover who refuses to let her go. But after seeing Az in action, she figures she could use a little supernatural help. And so she plans a course of seduction guaranteed to arouse his interest and his angelic passions…

I don't really care for scary movies. There definitely not something that appeals to me. The only thing I will watch is Underworld series.
i'm not a fan of horror movies i'm too emotional ^^ a simple spider make me scream like a banshee ^^;;
i love a read a good urban fantasy ( again not dark horror)
thank you a lot for those great prize ^^
A must-see flick? Mmmm....maybe The Nightmare Before Christmas. Oh and the Gremlins! However lately Coraline has become one of my favorite (both book and movie).
Thank you for the giveaway! :D
Danni, I love the Underworld series! I'm a big fan of Michael's. ;)
LOL, miki, I did that banshee scream when a spider crawled across my steering wheel earlier today.
I am so sad to confess that I've never seen The Nightmare Before Christmas. I will have to watch that ASAP!
I'd have to say Nightmare before Christmas for a fun one and paranormal activity for scary !! ;-)
i am not a big fan of scary movies either but i'll watch those disney channel halloween themed movies. they're fun
Nightmare on Elm Street. The original. It scares me EVERY time I watch it and see those nasty long arms stretch out. AHHHHHHH. :-)
My favorite story is about the Bell Witch in Adams, TN. I can remember one Halloween the county historian was out our Halloween party and he was telling the story about the Bell Witch. It was in a basement with windows at ground level. It was really quiet and intense and Mr. Turner all of a sudden yelled out part of the story. At the same time that he did that someone banged on the window because the door was locked and he couldn't get in. Everybody nicluding Mr. Turned screamed then we all laughed. It couldn't have happened at a better time in the story. I'll never forget that night.
Friday the 13th movies were scary way back when they came out, now I just laugh at them.
Scary movies...I don't like slasher/blood and guts movies...I'm more into the psychological scare. I loved Watcher in the Woods with Bette Davis...Love the Underworld Series..vampire movies are always good..Really enjoyed (tongue in cheek) Love at First Bite with George Hammilton...
Thanks for the giveaway
After visiting the steps featured in The Exorcist and getting the chills, I think that's the go to scary movie of all time for me!
The poltergeist is my favourite scary movie. I thought it was very believable. And very well filmed. I would love to win one of these books

Wow, don't know if I could pick one. We love horror movies. For Oct. 31st we always seem to watch Halloween, Nightmare on Elm Street (the original), Saw, and for a few laughs the Final Destination movies.
I'm with you. I always wanted the monsters to be the good guys. It's like rooting for the underdog. :)
I usually watch Lost Boys at this time. I love that flick. However, I'm not a huge horror film girl. I don't seem to mind monster movies tho... ;D
I love a good scary movie ^.^ during this time of year I love to rewatch the Nightmare on Elm Street movies. Or the Halloween ones with Micheal Myers :) that goes really well with the candy apples of the season lol.
I've mentioned this before but I think The Decent is one of the scariest movies I've seen. Very suspenseful. I also love The Corpse Bride and Sleepy Hallow (Burton's). Thank you.

I love Hocus Pocus! I watch it every Halloween!
Cannot watch too scary movies because they mess with my mind. I'm too receptive. Why the hubby watches them when I'm asleep.
Now I do like movies like Ginger Snaps
Every year I have to watch The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Have loved this story since I was a little kid and now its just tradition I now include my kids in :)
My absolute favorite is "The Haunting". I like the 1963 version which followed the story in Shirley Jackson's book, The Haunting of Hill House. Just thinking about it makes me nervous.
It would have to be the Nightmare before Christmas and followed by The Mist.
I like A nightmare before x'mas. :) It's cute and a bit scary at the same time!
I can't decide on one favorite Halloween story, but any of Grimm's Fairytales could be quite the horror story :)
At Halloween I stick pretty tame with Its the Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown. As for scary movies Alien has always freaked me out
I love scary movies that use your imagination instead of splatter, but i can´t think of one atm =) To read, i love Karina Halle´s Experiment in Terror series, that is some serious Halloween scare material! =D
Love the giveaway & Happy Wednesday!
//Linda
Thanks for a great post and giveaway! I like Practical magic :)
I'm not a fan of really gory, scary movies but I did like Scream...only the first one though ;)
I think I've seen almost every horror movie. Try watching Blair Witch Project the night before you go on a 3 day camping trip. I was a mess. Watched Candyman then got ready for bed. I went running out of the bathroom when I realized I had said Candyman twice into the mirror. I like everything from The Day of the Birds to Attack of the Killer Tomatoes to Friday the 13... well you get the picture.
I have to watch the Halloween movies every year with all the lights in the house on. Then it takes me a few days to go outside after dark by myself...lol
It, that movie with the clown, always makes me shiver! (Ileana A.-rafflecopter)
I am a horror movie Junkie. I love horror movies. I've recently watched Nightmare on Elm Street, Friday the 13th parts 1-4, Fright Night and my favorite ...The Exorcist part 3. I think part three gets overlooked a lot but for me it's the best movie ever.

I don't watch scary movies. I will always watch the Charlie Brown Halloween special. I watched it as a kid and now I watch it with my son.
I am a big fan of The haunting; I like the remake but love the original, and my other all time favorite is The changeling (George C. Scott)!!
No scary movies for me as I'm not a fan of horror films, but I do like to watch Van Helsing with Hugh Jackman :)
I hate scary movies. Other than Underworld and the Resident Evil movies I won't watch anything horror.

Oh, Melly Mel, that would have freaked me out! You're brave!
Petula, I love Poltergeist! Stuffed clowns still scare me b/c of that movie.
Alainala, you mentioned Laybrinth! Yay!!!!!! Love!
KMichelle, there is nothing wrong with being a chicken (says the woman who usually watches scary movies by peeking through her fingers...)
Rebecka, my husband was an extra in one of the Final Destinations! (The one with the race track.) They filmed that one down here, and I think he is on screen for .0008 of a second.
Melissa, you have got me wanting to watch Lost Boys now. Used to adore it!
April, I could so go for a candy apple right about now...
Victoria, I agree with you! That movie chilled me!
S. Belle, what a great, fun show!

Love, LOVE that one Michele!
Grandmareads, how have I missed that one?!
I haven't seen The Mist robinky42. Got to go Google it!
May, it sure seems like that one is a popular choice. I'm making it my mission to see that movie!
Bec, I'm with you--those are scary!
Shannon, I haven't seen Charlie Brown yet this season. I'll have to pull out the DVD right away.
Linda, I think the ones that use your own imagination against you are the scariest ones!
Erin, thanks for coming by! And Practical Magic always makes me smile. I want their powers!
Cheryl, the first time I watched Scream, I think my eyes were closed for about 75% of the show.
Jo, I couldn't even imagine that before a camping trip! Gah!!!
hc38024, Michael Myers has always creeped me out. It's that mask...and, you know, all the killing.
Gisele, I can't handle any movies with scary clowns--one flash of a white face and a red nose, and I'm terrified!
Mary, I'm with you on being the horror junkie. I adore SyFy Saturday nights. ;)
elaing8, I like the movies on Family Channel, too--especially if I am alone in the house. They don't give me nightmares!
Audra, I forgot all about the crypt keeper!
cait045, I just saw a preview for Hocus Pocus today! Such a great show.
Sheryl, my son loves it, too. He wants the Great Pumpkin to be real so badly.
I haven't ever seen the Changeling--now I'm curious, Diana!
Oh, Winnie, you had me when you said Hugh Jackman.
Kt, I can't wait to see the next Resident Evil--she is so kick-butt!

Shocker. A Nightmare on Elm Street. Tore923@aol.com
I don't really have any must see movies at Halloween - I've never been a big fan of horror movies. I do like Beetlejuice, that's always a fun movie to watch.
The new Paranormal Activity movie looks good. All those movies are so scary because of the filming method, looks like a real home video.
I don't really like horror movies. I suffered with I knos what you did last summer :/
dany7578 at hotmail dot com
i basically a coward, that's why i avoid horror flicks :)) thank god i live in a country where halloween is not a culture
I love watching Hocus Pocus! But I'm not really a fan of proper horror movies.
jessicamariesutton(at)msn(dot)com
I love watching the orginal version of The Haunting.
I'm a big wimp; I avoid anything scary. I once watched a scary movie as a kid with my eyes closed & my fingers stuffed in my ears throughout all the scary parts! Even the creepy musci spooks me.
I don't enjoy scary movies and if I watch it's with my daughter and a cushion to hide my face!
I like magic rather than scary so HOCUS POCUS and PRACTICAL MAGIC.
I usually watch the original Nightmare on Elm Street and Hocus Pocus.
Movie wise I'm more into watching Bette Midler's Hocus Pocus then one of the slasher type films. What scares me the most would be getting lost in the woods around my son's summer home at night. He has a place about 100 miles upstate from NY on one of the Reservoirs.
I don't do scary movies...but I love The Great Pumpkin Charlie Brown! Total kid at heart.
No scary stuff for me please, but I do love the movie Hocus Pocus.
SCREAM- was a great flick- love the costumed killer. sdylion(at)gmail(dot)com
I like to watch the Sixth Sense at Halloween because it is scary without being gory. Ghost stories really make me shiver :)

It really just depends on my mood. I love all the horror movies (Halloween, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Saw, and so many more. Although I do usually end up laughing at them, lol.
"The Nightmare Before Christmas" bridges nicely between the two big holidays this time of year.
I stay away from scaries the year around
Misery by Stephen King and the film they made... both Halloween must :D (must-read and must-see) ^_^
I'm a sissy when it comes to scary movies! I do like to watch Charlie Brown's Great pumpkin movie with my 2 little guys :)
Halloween is my favorite horror movie. I, also, like werewolf movies.
Ohh I love scary movies! For Halloween I suggest watching "Final Destination"!
