Halloween The SIG Way

I love the way Paranormal Haven celebrates Halloween and I love writing about hot cops, so it was super fun thinking of ways my team of Special Investigations Group detectives would celebrate the holiday.

The five SIG members, who are based in San Francisco but have jurisdiction across the state, love to work together, best each other, and solve a good mystery, but given their jobs, it takes a lot to freak them out. So what would their Halloween party look like?

How about playing to their strengths and assigning them a paranormal investigation? For the evening, they’ll leave their guns at home (except maybe for their off-duty pieces – shh), but arm themselves Ghostbusters-style with flashlights, audio recorders, video cameras, and EMF detectors (a scientific instrument for measuring electromagnetic fields). Ideally, they’d fine a local place similar to the Waverly Hills Sanatorium in Kentucky, which is reported to be haunted. The sanatorium recently opened its doors to its first-ever public paranormal investigation, providing attendees with food, drinks, and a complete tour of the sanatorium. I don’t know about you, but something about a haunted sanatorium seems scarier to me than even a graveyard. I think the team members would be freaked out, too, but none of them would want to admit to it.

The next thing this team would do is celebrate the holiday in the dark, up close and personal with their favorite person. For hero Liam “Mac” McKenzie (Shades Of Desire), this would be his legally blind wife, Natalie, who has learned to live with her disability despite the attempts of a mad man to deprive her of that chance. And for Jase Tyler, the hero from my latest release, Shades Of Temptation, it means spending quality time with fellow detective Carrie Ward. Jase has a reputation as a player, and Carrie has a hard time allowing herself to be vulnerable, which means she tends to keep her femininity tightly under wraps. I’d love Carrie to forgo her normal khakis and button-down shirt for something slinky and sexy. I think she’d choose a vamped up version of “Little Red” (and hey, she even has red hair!) to compliment, torment, and tantalize her wolf.
