HatH - Guest post and giveaway from author Erica Hayes

Thanks for so much for inviting me to Paranormal Haven's Halloween bash! I'm so pleased to be here.

The characters in my new book REVELATION are fallen angels, fighting demonic forces at the end of the world. They might not believe in Halloween, a pagan festival… but they do know for certain that monsters are real. Here's a little snippet on what I thought they might do for Halloween…


The Tainted Host, a gang of fallen angels, lounging on the sofa in front of American Idol in a rare moment of peace. Luniel (the tough, dangerous one) and Trillium (the mischievous red-haired one) are watching the show and eating popcorn. Iria (the sexy femme fatale) is filing her nails. Jadzia (the dreamy, inexperienced one) absently fluffs her feathers and stares into space. Japheth (the cold handsome blond one) is meditating, his eyes closed. Ariel (the cruel, bitter one) is drinking beer and sharpening his flaming sword.

Their leader, Dashiel, a mighty warrior, swoops in, and tosses a bundle of envelopes onto the sofa. "Heads up, people. Archangel Michael's throwing his Halloween party again. Everyone's invited."

Ariel picks up an invitation and reads: "'To my Tainted minions: it's Halloween again. Party's on at my place in Ibiza. Come as your favourite monster. BYO humans to torment. Be there or feel my WRATH!! … oh, wait. You already did. Ha ha! No love, your cruel despotic boss forever, Michael.'" Ariel tosses the paper aside. "Nice. I totally love this fallen angel gig. At least we don't have to bring our own beer."

"Cool!" says Trillium, leaping up from the sofa and slicing the air with his purple-flaming sword. "Michael's parties are the best. Wine, women and wailing. I'm gonna wrap myself in toilet paper and ketchup, and go as a zombie. I love those guys!"

Iria, who looks like a supermodel with wings, pokes him. "You sound like a zombie most of the time, moron. 'Mmm, urghh, brainnsss…' Hey, I know. I'll go as a terrorist!"

Trill pokes her in return. "What does that even look like, smarty-pants?"

In a squirt of blue flame, Iria's wings disappear, and she dons her human disguise. "Like this. Y'know. They look just like everyone else!"

Ariel laughs, and finishes his beer. "Very clever. I think I'll go as me. I'm my favourite monster, mwa ha ha!"

Luniel lifts his sky-blue gaze to heaven. "Whatever, bad-ass. You're just a big softie inside."

"That is so not true." Ariel spears him on a glare. "What are you going as, then? A fairy prince?"

Lune grins back. "Maybe. An evil one. I look hot in tights. How about it, Japheth? I know you don't like Michael's parties. Just stick a sheet over your head and go as a ghost. No one has to know it's you."

"I'm not going." Japheth doesn't open his eyes. But his mellow is spoiled, his calm blue meditation aura flickering with scarlet disquiet.

Dash laughs. "Dude, does it sound optional to you?"

"What's Michael gonna do, throw me out of heaven again?" Japheth shrugs. "Anyway, I hate Ibiza. It's a wretched hive of scum and villainy."

"A wretched hive of gorgeous angel groupies, you mean." Dash shrugs. "Your funeral. I think I'll go as a demon. Chicks dig bad boys. Do you think one of those guys would lend me some horns and a tail?"

Jadzia fluffs out her blond hair. "Demons don't have horns and tails, Dash."

"So? Zombies don't wear toilet paper, either. How about it, Jaz? We could go together. I'll be Satan, you can be my innocent-yet-sexy sidekick with a secret crush on me."

Everyone snickers, except Jadzia, who gives Dash a cutting smile. "Or maybe I'll dress up as you and go as the Whore of Babylon."

"Ooh, nice," puts in Trill. "I think she wins that one, Dash."

"Whatever," grumbles Dash. "You know you want to, Jaz. Now where did I put that dominatrix outfit?"

"In your dreams, big guy." Jadzia shoves him with one creamy wing. "I think I'll go as Medusa. One glance, and guys turn to stone." She winks at Luniel.

Luniel flushes like a gentleman, but grins like a devil. "Aaand I'm leaving that one right where it is. I'm off to carve out a pumpkin. See y'all there, folks." And in a flash of sweet-smelling white light, they vanish.
