HatH - Guest post and giveaway from author Bec McMaster

So Halloween is just around the corner, and I’ll admit that as an Aussie, it’s the one holiday I wish we could steal! I love everything about the idea – of course, I love everything paranormal and dressing up, so it’s a win-win situation on both fronts.

It’s only been in recent years that signs of Halloween began creeping into Australian culture. I remember staying up at my mum’s two years ago on the Sunshine Coast and having kids come trick-or-treating. It was great fun, both for adults and children alike.

So what enthuses me most about the idea? It’s definitely the dressing up. It doesn’t matter what event it is, if there’s a dress theme, I’m there. One of the best things about attending the RWA conference each year is the themed cocktail party.

Of course, when it came to my birthday this year I wasn’t about to let an opportunity go past with… a Halloween theme!

And check out the cake! Yes, it was just as delicious as it looked.

So how does any of this tie in with writing romance? Well, as I write steampunk-romance, it’s all about the corsets, top hats, devices and goggles. The ultimate dress-up theme! Whether your intrepid heroine is sailing past a dirigible with her own clockwork wings and aviator helm, or – in my case – wielding a pressurised dart-gun as she tries to entice my wicked hero out of his velvet waistcoats, the one thing that is constant is the aesthetics.

Now I just need RWA to give me a steampunk theme so I can live out my fantasies in costume.

Hope you enjoyed my guest post! Leave a comment telling me what you’ll be dressing up as this year and you’ll be entered in my International giveaway!

KISS OF STEEL BY BEC MCMASTER – IN STORES SEPTEMBER 2012

A brilliantly creative debut where vampires, werewolves, and clockwork creatures roam the mist–shrouded streets of London…

When Nowhere is Safe

Most people avoid the dreaded Whitechapel district. For Honoria Todd, it’s the last safe haven. But at what price?

Blade is known as the master of the rookeries—no one dares cross him. It’s been said he faced down the Echelon’s army single–handedly, that ever since being infected by the blood–craving he’s been quicker, stronger, and almost immortal.

When Honoria shows up at his door, his tenuous control comes close to snapping. She’s so…innocent. He doesn’t see her backbone of steel—or that she could be the very salvation he’s been seeking.

One of the great thing about having kids, is watching them get dressed up for Halloween. This year Mary Poppins and a Chimney Sweep will be spotted roam around the house.

I want to dress up as a zombie fairy.

I haven't been to a costume themed party in many years. The last was a Halloween party given by my sister in law only a year before she passed away.

The group that always attended just lost any interest once she was gone.

It is not really celebrated in Holland, though it is starting to. If I would be dressing up, it would be as a witch.

Melliane said...

Well we don't celebrate in the South of France as well, but it would be so fun! Maybe in Fae? lol I don't know how it would be but it would be interesting.
