Welcome to Beyond the Blog, where we'll not only be featuring some amazing blogs but also the creative people behind them. Today we have an interview with Christen from Goldilox and the Three Weres. Christen's blog has a bit of everything for the paranormal lover so you know we had to share it with our followers. Make sure you stop by her site and check everything out after the interview!
Let’s start with a few blog related questions
Why did you decide to start a blog?
I stumbled upon Goodreads one day after I had gotten back into reading. After making a few friends on the site I started writing reviews of the books I was reading. I kept seeing all these beautiful blogs with these great reviews and features and eventually I just decided “I want to do that!”. I wanted a place to post my book reviews and share the books that I love. You know us bloggers…we’re extreme book pushers!
What does your family/friends think of your blog?
They’re supportive of the blog and know it means a lot to me, but they don’t really understand why I like blogging or why I get so excited about books. When packages with ARCs come in the mail my boyfriend says, “Is it just a book again?”. However he will ask me every once in a while, “How many followers do you have now?” so I guess he is trying.
What type of audience do you think would most enjoy your blog? (Adult or YA lovers? Paranormal or Urban Fantasy fans? Someone who likes a mix of everything? etc.)
I review anything with paranormal or fantasy aspects, both adult and young adult, so anyone that enjoys reading books with that something “extra” would enjoy the blog. My favorite genre is Urban Fantasy so there are a lot of reviews for that genre on my blog!
Who are some of your favorite authors that you discovered because of blogging?
Some authors that I’ve discovered because of blogging include Jennifer L. Armentrout, Rhiannon Frater, Stacia Kane, Jenn Bennett, Carolyn Crane, Stacey Jay, Sandy Williams, and Kelly Gay. I never would have read some of their books if not for blogger friends that suggested them or reviewed their books and I am so happy to have been introduced to them because I love them all!
Let’s get to know the bloggers behind the blog, shall we?
Where are you from?
I’m a Florida girl, born and raised, and I still live here. Currently I’m in Pinellas County, which is close to Tampa and St. Petersburg.
Are you a morning person or is coffee a must before you are able to function?
I am NOT a morning person in any way. I don’t drink coffee, but soda and energy Vitamin Water are my best friends!
What’s a typical day in your life like?
If it’s a weekday then I’m waking up at 6:30 AM and driving 40 minutes to the public school I teach at. Then I spend the next 7 and a half hours teaching Kindergarten - yes, I sleep well at night! When I get home I am typically glued to my laptop for a couple hours doing blog stuff or reading on my couch. At some point in there I make dinner for my boyfriend and I and most likely watch some TV (Vampire Diaries, Walking Dead, The Mentalist, etc.). I’m a night person, so then I’m usually up late reading until I fall asleep with my book or Kindle on my chest – yep, that really happens.
Do you have any pets?
I have a little five pound Maltese named Zoe who is my snuggle buddy when I’m reading. I also have two Russian tortoises named Gertrude and Rosie that I bought as classroom pets but that come home with me on holiday breaks and for the summer.
What is your favorite thing to do (aside from reading) in your down time?
Um, more reading? I can’t say that? Okay, well my boyfriend of four years has turned me into a video game lover so I like playing those or doing “teacher-y stuff” when I’m not reading.
You’re stranded on an island (not really sure how that happened) and when you look in your bag you’re thankful to see your 5 favorite books are in there. What’s in your bag?
Oh man. As a reader and blogger you should know better than to ask that!!! I’ll give it a try:
1. City of Ghosts by Stacia Kane
2. One Foot in the Grave by Jeaniene Frost
3. Shadowfever by Karen Marie Moning
4. Head Rush by Carolyn Crane
5. The Time Traveler’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
What was your first full on, geek out fan moment?
When I received by first advance copies in the mail they came a day apart: Third Grave Dead Ahead by Darynda Jones and Drink Deep by Chloe Neill. I was literally shocked when the first one came and then giddy when the next one came a day later. I felt like such a real blogger!
You just won your dream vacation, all expenses paid. Where are you going?
There are a couple places I’ve always wanted to go, but the most intriguing to me is Japan because it is SO different from where I live. There is just nowhere in the US like it.
Oh, we forgot to mention you get to take your fantasy man with you. So, who are you taking?
Can I take a harem? You know, one for every day of the week? How about every weekday and on Saturday and Sunday we rest. I would take Ian Somerhalder, Alexander Skarsgard, Channing Tatum, Matt Bomer, and Jason Momoa – whew!

Christen's got a great site. I'm a follower of hers. I must say that a couple of my friends don't understand the whole blogging thing but the majority of it think it's awesome.
Thanks for the interview, that was fun. And how awesome that your boyfriend and family support you. My boyfriend does his best, but he doesn't read so can't really be enthusiastic for me. And my family really could not care less what I do or like.
So, be happy, and have lots and lots of fun while blogging and reading!
Great interview Christen :)
