My reading confessions

I confess that I.....Love paranormal romance but more times than not hate the book covers

Paranormal romance is my absolute favorite genre but oh wow, are there some bad book covers.

The cheesy cartoonish ones of the first few books in Kresley Cole's Immortals After Dark series, the blah ones from Nalini Singh Psy-Changeling series (especially when compared to her lovely Guild Hunter covers) and the lackluster covers from super author Sherrilyn Kenyon are just a few where the saying it's what's inside that counts applies.

I confess that I.....Have never read a contemporary romance nor have I ever had the urge to

No thank you. I understand why to others this is their genre of choice but it's not for me. When I read I want to be taken completely away from the every day. Not that my life even remotely resembles that of heroines in those books but I need some alphas to have some kind of paranormal bite.

I confess that I.....Have never read Twilight or 50 Shades and plan to never pick up either

Would I have read them if the books haven't been crammed down my throat from every form of media? Perhaps but we'll never know.

I confess that I.....Did not like Zsadist from J.R. Ward's Black Dagger Brotherhood series for a very long time

This is my favorite PNR series but for the longest time I didn't like Zsadist. I just didn't understand why he's the favorite of so many people.

On my second reading of the series something changed.  He became more appealing I suppose and as I reread each book, I liked him more and more. I even went back and read his short story that's in the readers guide. I still don't get why so many people love him.  Yes, I know he's a tortured hero but they're ALL tortured heroes!

What about you?  What are your reading confessions?

I confess that I read Thrillers/Mysteries but I often pick them up despite their covers. Seriously that is one genre that could do with a cover overhaul stat! (I would even take bland SK covers)

I confess that I am just not an overall fan of YA: I have over the years read about 40 and of those only liked about 15. All 40 were highly praised so I am convinced that is me not them!

I confess that I hate Xhex so I cringe when her and JM come into a story. I know I am in the minority. I am ok with that!

I admit that I am a Lara Adrian Fan Girl but I am a little uneasy with the time jump for the next set of Midnight Breed books (we better see like a quick chapter of the kids growing up or I might be icked out)!

Felicia - I was wondering about the Lara Adrian time jump too. I have a feeling the only recap we'll get is from the hero/heroine thinking about their childhood among the breed.

I confess that I've fallen out of love with vampires and shifters. Now I'm into witches and ghosts, and maybe an occasional demon.

I confess that I'm not a YA fan. Even though I love "angsty" and emotional adult stories, I can't deal with young people angst. (I need to get over that because I have two kids who will one day be teenagers!)

I confess that romance is not my favorite genre anymore. I never thought that day would come.

I confess that I've never read any of the Black Dagger Brotherhood books, and now it's too late. (See my first confession. LOL!)

I confess that the huge "50 Shades" craze has killed my love of BDSM erotic romance. Killed it! *sob sob sob*

I confess that I haven't read 50 Shades either and don't have any plans too.

I confess that I love paranormals and am a little obsessed with vampires.

I confess that every time I see a headless cover...ie..where the cover model's head isn't shown on the cover, that I cringe because I really dislike that trend.

Diana - Ooooo :-( If you ever get back into vampires then make sure you pick up BDB. I've given up on a few of my series because they've lost that magic that made me love them in the first place but not BDB.

Mary - I confess I actually like those covers. I like most of the cover models until I see the face. Except Paul Marron. That man is gorgeous from head to toe.

I think you stole what I would have confessed. LOL

I hate tooney covers. Although I did read all the Twilight books & the first 50 book & I think someone owes me that time back.

My confession.... Mostly paranormal romance. Love vamps and shifters...mostly shifters.

I do read and occasional contemporary though.

Haven't read 50 Shades or Twilight either and don't plan to.

I too, am one that likes to be taken completely away and the paranormal romance writers that I love do that.

Shalagh - This is a good one for Facebook :-)

Vanessa - Haha, that's how I think I'd feel if I read all those books.

DL - I was mostly vamps for a long time but over the last year I've been leaning more towards shifters.

Great post Stephanie!
I confess I have read Twilight, and never plan on reading the rest, nor do I want to see the movies.
I confess I don't like erotica, and I skip most sex scenes in the rest of my books.
I confess that I will never again read a book that is hyped too much, as most often it is not my kind of read.
I confess I don't like YA much, but now I have to search it out to buy the right ones for my stepdaughter.
I confess I am a book addict.
I confess that I want more reading time, so I can read my TBR in this lifetime.

Thanks Aurian. I second your TBR confession!

I confess that I have read the Twilight series but regret ever reading them.
I confess that most often than not I also hate the covers of a novel but rely on the content. And I hate the cartoon covers most. And I love Jeaniene Frost's books but hate most of her covers because the characters don't look anything like I pictured. I do, however, like the new Cat model. She's more what I pictured. In this matter, I love the BDB and LOTU covers but not really any other book covers.
I confess that I used to love YA because I was a teenager not so long ago but now I really don't like them. I re-read a great A novel recently and found the main character so stupid and selfish.
I confess that my favourite, and, basically, the only genre that I read is paranormal romance. I only read contemporary romance if it's from one of my paranormal romance authors otherwise, I don't touch the stuff. It's too boring, in my opinion. As said above "When I read I want to be taken completely away from the every day. Not that my life even remotely resembles that of heroines in those books but I need some alphas to have some kind of paranormal bite."
I confess that I dislike/hate Mary, Xhex, No'One/Autumn and Phury from the BDB. They all just get on my nerve.
I confess that I hated Lover Reborn.
I confess that I lvoe vampires the most but I also really love the Lords and Gena's Alien Huntress series.
I confess that I plan to read 50 Shades but only because one of my guy friends convinced me to. What I've read, though, isn't that great.
