Ian Ranulf may appear to be a proper gentleman but just below the surface lurks a creature that's clawing to get out. He fights to keep his wild side hidden and it becomes even more difficult upon meeting the headstrong and beautiful Daisy Craigmore. Free of a loveless and abusive marriage, Daisy has set out to enjoy the pleasures that have been kept from her for so long. When she becomes the target of a crazed creature, Daisy will relay on the frustrating yet wickedly handsome Ian to help keep her safe. Together, they face their own dark secrets and fight to save a growing love that is quickly becoming all consuming.
Daisy has all the qualities I look for and enjoy in a strong heroine. She's wily, resourceful and courageous, something she demonstrates as she works past her fears to find the creature responsible for the violent murders around town. By her side, even if she wishes he wasn't, is Ian. On the surface, Ian is well groomed and from a respectable family but the reality is he has a wild side begging to be released. He's intelligent, determined and a man with many secrets. Not to mention primal in a way that had me envious of Daisy. On a professional level, despite some arguments and disagreements, they worked well together but it was their personal relationship where I though they're strongest.
Whether it's an appetite for carnal pleasures or the truth of a supernatural heritage, Daisy and Ian hide who they really are behind pretty, proper masks. Not until they meet can they finally let their guard down and show their true selves. Each with their own heartbreaking story to tale, Ian and Daisy are each other's support as they face personal demons and work to let their pasts go so there's a possibility of a future together. From sad and frustrating to heartwarming and wonderfully naughty, their relationship runs the emotional gamut and I'm thankful I had the privilege to be along for the ride.
Aside from having to find a beast that's loose in London, Ian is forced to face family problems that he can no longer ignore. Both stories go hand in hand and take us head first into the paranormal world that exists rightalong side the mortal one. I absolutely loved learning about the politics and supernatural beings that secretly roam the streets of London. Shifters, lycans, weres (yes, there's a difference), vampires and human/clockwork like hybrids; it was all increasingly fascinating and one of the best things about this book.
Firelight hooked me in but Moonglow has made me bona fide fan of the series. Ian and Daisy have set the bar high as clever individuals and a shamelessly wonderful couple. They're an act I wouldn't want to follow. The story was engaging with surprises that weren't overdone and I couldn't get enough of the supernatural world that played a part in it all. Really well done. The ground work is laid for book 3 and I can't wait.
