Interview with author T.J. Michaels

Today we are talking to author T.J. Michaels about her latest release and the first book in her new Seals of Destiny series, Silk Road.  We've already heard some really good things about Silk Road so let's get to the interview so you can learn more about the book from T.J. herself.

In what genre would you place your Seals of Destiny Series in?
I’d place it squarely in the Urban Fantasy Romance department. Each book is set in modern times with seemingly ordinary people interacting with extraordinary beings. Some good. Others, not so much.

Can you tell us a little about the first book in the series, Silk Road?
Silk Road is the story of a Fallen angel named Larien. But we also get into some deeper mythology regarding supernaturals by introducing different ‘flavors’ of Fallen, so to speak. His job is to help a human find an artifact that was given into the care of one of her ancestors – King Solomon.

What is the Silk Road?
The Silk Road is a real place. It’s a trade route that has been in existence for thousands of years and is still used today. Along that route there are major archaeological finds, such as buried tombs and such. The Silk Road is where our story should come to an end…but doesn’t quite wrap up as neatly as one would expect.

What 3 words would you use to describe Larien?
Hot! Broken. Alpha.

How about Jayla?
Caring. Sunny. So NOT a pushover.

Without giving too much away, what is your favorite scene or quote from Silk Road?
Oooh, that’s a tough one. It’s a fairly dark and serious book, but there is some humor in it as well. I think one of my favorite quotes is when two angels escort Larien into Jayla’s presence. And she’s taken aback at what they’re wearing:

“And what in the world are you two wearing?” Jayla cocked her head to the side in wonder. For a couple of all-knowing, all-seeing beings, they’d missed the mark on fashion.

“This is an exercise facility, is it not?” Barchiel asked, not bothering to hide the smartass in his voice. Jayla laughed. Just couldn’t help it.

“Yes, this is a gym, but it’s literally freezing outside and raining. So, uh, what’s with the…uh…” Gods, she couldn’t even say it.

They both sported tank tops, Ambriel’s in neon orange and Barchiel’s done in neon green. Short shorts cut so tight they may as well have been Speedos, matched the colors of the tanks. High top basketball shoes in a rainbow of colors she was sure had to be angel-made because no company in their right mind would dare manufacture them. And neither of them wore jackets. Sunglasses? Yes. Jackets? Not so much.

“This is San Francisco. You told us this city loves rainbows. So we dressed accordingly. Once we release our corporeal bodies, we’ll go back to our usual armor,” Ambriel said.

“Though I must admit that I am really liking jeans.” This from Barchiel.

“Oh my goodness, Ambriel. You guys, just…wow.”

What do you have in store next for the series?
Given that Silk Road uncovers an entire group of people with very uncommon powers, we end the story with the charge that these people must be found and protected. There’s plenty of work to do for our main characters, as well as all of the sidekicks introduced in this first book…including the leprechaun ;D

We want to thank T.J. for taking the time to answer some of our questions.  Here's more about her latest release:

Silk Road (Seals of Destiny, book 1)

The first Descendant in millennia with the power to use an ancient artifact is being hunted. By the good, the bad...and the worst.

Every rogue longs for a second chance, right? Wrong. Larien, former angel of The Host is not looking for redemption. What he needs hasn't been seen in millennia but he'll search the ends of the Earth to find it - from the hills of San Francisco all the way to...the Silk Road.

Jayla Protegenu learned as a child to call her protectors to keep at bay the things that prowled the night. Now, as a woman grown, she never expected one of those protectors would be a Fallen angel - Larien. His job: to help Jayla find the mythical and mystical Seal of Solomon.

Even among those who created the very meaning of good and evil, nothing is black and white. Neither friends nor enemies are what they appear.

Author Bio:

Born into a musically eclectic family, TJ’s first love is music. She enjoys singing, even outside of the shower. So, where does this writing stuff come in? It actually began with reading. TJ is an avid reader and you’ll find her with her head buried in a book every day of the week, whether it’s her own creation or something snagged at the bookstore.

What about ideas? Working for an interesting organization allows her to interact with even more interesting customers. With an imagination expanded beyond belief after the birth of her two (now teenaged) children, spinning life’s experiences into tales is a blast! And now that books have caught up to technology, TJ’s eBook reader is shown no mercy, forced to entertain her at all hours of the day or night. Even in the dark!

Writing like a madman, er, madwoman, TJ hasn’t lost steam. Her mind? Yep, that’s gone, but steam there is aplenty. A true Taurus, TJ isn’t slowing down and she’s definitely too stubborn to stop when she sees the fence!
