Kat discovers that someone else is killing vampire houses, but they are not letting the Purebloods (humans) live. People are starting to think it is Lady Death, which is the name she hunts those like her under. She teams up with the Luna Cult to find out what is going on. She soon discovers that what is killing the monsters in the night like her has a link to her past.

Tainted Night, Tainted Blood is the second book in the Kat Redding series. It is a series you will want to start with the first book, To Walk the Night. The story revolves around Kat, a woman who was a hunter, and was forced to become a vampire. She lives with a human she rescued name Ethan who is also responsible for taking care of her illegal silver weapons. He has a secret of how he makes these weapons. In the second book we get to meet what is responsible for that.

In my review of To Walk the Night I said that Kat was a lot like Batman. She is broods most of the time. Her family is dead, and she has a helpful man that makes her weapons. Plus the world around her is very dark and gruesome. It is not for the faint of heart, the pages are stacked full of blood, gore and very fun fighting scenes which are well done. Kat’s emotions are all over the place in this book. From something in her past coming back, her relationship with den master Jonathan warming up, her trips to a strange town called Delai, and getting the crap beat out of her, she is an emotional wreck.

The story line has developed. In the last book there was a problem, and Kat had to deal with other people to help her end the problem. In this book the problem is who is going around killing like her, but not leaving the humans alive. She has to deal with the same people, and her relationship with Jonathan warms up, but warming up for Kat is not chopping their head off. There is also a side story involving the town of Delai. Nothing bad is going on in Delai. No people are dying, no monsters walk the streets. Everything is peaceful, and Kat develops an addiction for traveling there to meet Levi, a man who urges her to stay. This story line is left open, and I am really looking forward to how it plays out.

This series is shaping up, and getting more interesting as it goes on. The only issue I am running into is a problem with Kat. She is angry, all the time, and if she isn’t angry she is depressed. I really can’t think of one moment in the entire book she had one positive thought. It gets so bad that it seems to cloud any kind of logic for her. This isn’t to say that she should feel some of it. A lot of awful things have happened to her, and are still happening to her, but all the time is causing a strong disconnect.

All-in-all I am enjoying the story, and the series. The storyline is developing nicely, and I like the thread the next book will pick up on. I do intend to keep reading it. Kat does have some issues, and I am crossing my fingers that she will develop as the series goes on. I would recommend it for those who like their urban fantasy darker, and with a lot of action!

It is always nice to see the second release for an author and see some growth for both the characters and the author. Though I had hoped that Kat would find some happiness and peace..maybe with book three?

Hmm, 'Lady Death' seems kind of cheesy, but I still want to check this series out.
