One of the questions I get asked all the time is, “Do I have to read the books in the Eternal Guardians series in order?” This is always a really hard question for me to answer because I am both a reader and a writer. As a reader, I have to admit that I’m a huge series fan girl and I love knowing everything there is to know about the secondary characters in a series when I sit down to read a book. So as a reader I would say yes, read all the Eternal Guardians books because then you’ll know the whole backstory and everything that’s happened up until the point where ENRAPTURED begins. But as a writer, I realize that not everyone has time to jump into a series mid-stream and go back and read from the beginning, so I work hard to make each book stand on it’s own. For that reason, whenever I’m asked this question about my own books, I can honestly say yes, you CAN read any book in the series out of order and totally figure out what’s going on. BUT…(and this is the reader in me)…every book is enhanced if you know what came before it.
For those of you who are new to the Eternal Guardians series, I thought it would be fun to take the time to bring you up to speed on what’s happened so far. Bear with me because series can be like soap operas at times (which is why readers love them!)
The Eternal Guardians are seven warriors descended from the seven strongest heroes in all of ancient Greece. They defend both their world—Argolea—and the human realm from threats born of the Underworld—specifically, one evil goddess by the name of Atalanta who was herself once a hero but who made a deal with Hades for immortality and a shot at revenge. Atalanta has but one goal—to see the Guardians destroyed and the realm of Argolea in shambles. She commands an army of daemons—human souls she recruited from purgatory and enlisted in her war in exchange for a second shot at life. These “souls” now have the bodies of men, the heads lions, horns as if from a goat and ears of dogs. In one word they are: disgusting. They’re also tough as hell, and it’s the guardians’ job to track them down, kill them and prevent Atalanta from preying on mortals in her quest to break into Argolea and see it ruined.
In MARKED, the first book in the series, readers were introduced to Theron. He is the leader of the guardians (also known as Argonauts) and a descendent of Heracles, the greatest hero ever to walk to the earth. The king of Argolea’s daughter and only heir is dying and Theron is sent to find her half sister—a half-breed who knows nothing about otherworldly creatures and who, prophecy says, will be the key to ending Atalanta’s immortality. Along the way Theron discovers that things he and his guardians have been told about the war with Atalanta are not exactly true and eventually he has to make the decision to sacrifice one life—a woman he’s come to care for deeply—for the good of many, or trust his gut and betray his order.
ENTWINED, the second book in the series, is Zander’s book. Zander is the oldest guardian and the one who can’t be killed. As a descendent of Achilles, Zander knows he has a weakness somewhere but after 800 years he’s yet to find it. And knowing he lost his soul mate years before, he doesn’t have a whole lot to live for—until, that is, the king decides the only way to keep the Council from declaring his daughter unfit to rule and eventually disbanding the Argonauts is to marry his daughter off to one of the guardians to ensure a new heir can be created. With nothing to lose, Zander volunteers for the job. Which ignites a series of events that eventually lead to the discovery of lies long buried, Atalanta’s increasing plot to destroy the Argonauts, and the truth about Zander’s soul mate—the only woman he’s ever loved and has never been able to forget.
TEMPTED—book three—is Demetrius’s story. Demetrius is a descendent of Jason, the famous hero who led the original Argonauts on the quest for the Golden fleece and fell in love with a witch who eventually was responsible for his downfall. Demetrius is the biggest of the guardians and the meanest. He keeps to himself, he’s not easy to get along with, and he despises Isadora, the king’s heir. He also harbors a dark secret none of the other Argonauts know: He’s Atalanta’s son. Planted in Argolea to aid her in the destruction of the Argolean race. Only up until now he’s been able to fight the darkness born into him. Until, that is, Atalanta takes both him and the princess hostage and hatches a new plan: She knows that secretly Demetrius cares for Isadora, so she banishes them to a deserted island and figures if given enough time, biology will take over. Demetrius won’t be able to resist the lure of his soul mate under such circumstances, and when he eventually gives in, Atalanta will finally get her mole. One she will then take and shape into the soldier she needs. One who will succeed where Demetrius failed. One with blood links to both the Argonauts and the throne of Argolea.
So, do you feel caught up? If you’re shaking your head no, don’t worry. This is just a brief outline of each book. There’s a lot more in every story, including information on characters in upcoming books, the political scene in Argolea, and how the gods fit into this power struggle between Atalanta and the Argoleans (and trust me, the gods are always meddling). Overall, the Eternal Guardians series is a battle of good versus evil. Of doing what you’ve been told versus doing what you believe in. Of being who you are versus being who you could one day be. And really, that’s a lesson all of us could learn from, don’t you think?
To celebrate the release of ENRAPTURED, my publisher is giving away a copy of the book to one lucky commenter! Open to U.S./Canada residents only. Simply tell me if you’ve ever given a mid-series book a try and what you thought of it to be entered into the drawing.
ENRAPTURED BY ELISABETH NAUGHTON – IN STORES APRIL 2012
Orpheus—To most he's an enigma, a devil-may-care rogue who does whatever he pleases whenever he wants. Now this loose cannon is part of the Eternal Guardians—elite warriors assigned to protect the human realm—whether he likes it or not.
Orpheus has just one goal: to rescue his brother from the Underworld. He's not expecting a woman to get in the way. Especially not a Siren as gorgeous as Skyla. He has no idea she's an assassin sent by Zeus to seduce, entrap, and ultimately destroy him.
Yet Skyla herself might have the most to lose. There's a reason Orpheus feels so familiar to her, a reason her body seems to crave him. Perhaps he's not the man everyone thinks... The truth could reveal a deadly secret as old as the Eternal Guardians themselves

I've started series in the middle and then gone back to read the entire series. I love the Eternal Guardians series! Thanks for the giveaway.
As for the Eternal Guardians series I've read them in order, like I do most series that I read. I have read a few cozy mysteries out of order, but for the most part I always start at the beginning.
Congrats Elisabeth on Enraptured!
I usually like to read a series in order to get the back story, the secondary characters and more. I picked up the third book in Maya Banks Sweet series not realizing it was a series. I read it, loved it, then went back and got the rest of the books. I was a little confused at times not knowing the secondary characters and prior things that happened, but I eventually caught on to most everything. I can't wait to read Enraptured. Thanks for the giveaway.

I have did that with a couple of series now. The first one I did that with was Laurell K Hamilton's Anita Blake series. I started on book 6 and fell in love. I started at the beginning and have been buying up the series since.
I would love to win and read this book. I have read the first book from this series and have the second in my TBR pile, I would have to go out and get the 3rd book, before starting this one though. Thanks for the giveaway.

No, I have to start at the beginning. even if i'm asked to review, i would go back to read the earlier ones. there's usually some backstory that resurfaces in subsequent books that i hate to miss.
thanks for the giveaway and good luck tomorrow on your release day!!

I could never start a series out of order. I'm one of those reders that needs to know everything about each book, in order.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I've never read any of your books, but will now. They sound really good-love the covers!
Congrats on your new book. I love your series. I have a book and realized it was in the middle of the series. I have then gone back and read the rest of the series. :)

Long time ago, right around when my 13 year old, I would start books in the middle (because I didn't know they were in a series oh how the internet helps with that and well I was fortunate to get what books I did at the time). Friend was appalled (new friend that is still around) and made me promise to start reading series books in the proper order.

I'm a read it from the beginning if I can type of person, but if I happen to accidentally start a series in the middle and like it I will go and find the previous ones to read :D
I've read a few books that were in the middle of a series and only had a no problem with catching up. Especially when the series is through other characters POV you pretty much learn their back story throughout the book.
I have started a few series in the middle, and if I liked them a lot, I then went back and got the whole series. Sometimes I find a book on the shelf and get it and then find out it is part of an ongoing series. I generally don't mind starting in the middle to try a series.
Congrats on the book coming out, can't wait to read O's story. I like to read in order, so I understand the back story, but if I read a mid story and like it, I'll go back and get the others.
I do it all the time. It's easier to do it with PNR than with UF. I've found that there are some series you HAVE to read it order and others you can skip around and still be fine with the story. :) I find these things quite often. LOL
I have and usually I've gone back to pick up the other books in the series!!!
I am an anal, type A, black and white person; as a result, I do NOT ever read a series out of order, even if it can be a stand alone book! If I start a book and realize it is part of a series and not a first book, I will STOP reading and wait till I read the other books first! LOL!
Thanks for the fantastic post and giveaway!!!
LOL... I can't. I'm too OCD to start a series mid way. If I'm very interested, I will start at the beginning and work my way to the newest book. Such is the case with Elizabeth's books. I have Entwined and Tempted but I still have to find Marked.
I'd say about 75% of the series I read, I started on a book other than the first. If the blurb sounds really good, I may wait to read the one I have for the first book to come in (at the library).
I have bought gotten a book and realized it was the 3rd book...Being the bookaholic that I am, I had to immediately find the first 2 books and read those first...(any excuse for more books is a good one LOL).
I have found with ebooks, amazon will have the second or third book of a series for free (kindle), so if you read it and like it you end up buying the earlier books.
Congrats on the new book, I look forward to reading it.
thanks for the giveaway...fingers and toes crossed
I love the Eternal Guardians. I'm really looking forward to reading this next book. I actually started Shana Galen's Sons Of The Revolution with the second book The Making of A Gentleman and LOVED it. Then read the third book The Rogue Pirate's Bride and finally got the the first book. :)The Making Of A Duchess.

I read ENTWINED before I read MARKED and though I had no trouble following it, I believe a series like this is much more fun in order. I cannot wait to read Enraptured!
I've started plenty of series from the middle. Then I get to decide whether I want to read the first few. I do for some series but not for all of them.
I don't like to start a series in the middle. I guess I am OCD like that. I have gotten some freebie downloads for my Kindle that were out of order, but I never went back and bought the series.
Thanks, Sheryl

I always try to read series in order because I usually get so lost and don't know what's going on if I don't. Tore923@aol.com
I did that once with Michelle Bardsleys Broken Heart series I read the third book and loved it so I went and picked up the first wo and then read the series in order the books were great .
I love the Eternal Guardians series and I can't wait for O's story. I just know it is going to be a good one.
I have started series in the middle and some of them you can do that with, but then there are ones that you can't. Or at least I couldn't.
khayes4100@comcast.net
I did with Lara Adrians Breed series. And fell in love with the series. Although I really hate to start in the middle of a series.
I don't consciously jump into the middle of a series. If I commit to a book I will collect all the back stories first and then dig in from the beginning. I did that with your series and will start reading it soon so I can include Enraptured. I keep character and story notes when reading unfinished series so I can keep everything fresh when the next one comes out 6 months later. Thanks for the fun. glittergirl54 at ymail dot com
Thanks for all the great comments! Consensus seems to be...read all the books in the series! (I like that!)
Personally, I have to read books in the correct order.
I've come into a series midway a couple times, the most recent being Lauren Dane's Brown sibling books. I have always been hooked and go back and read the series from the beginning.
I have picked up a mid-series book but I usually didn't realize it was part of a series at the time. I got sucked into thestory and then needed to know what happened before. So then I'd have to read the first one. Thanks for the chance. I've always loved mythology so the fact that you mixed that in is awesome!

yeah, i have read a book from the middle of the series and i'm glad i read it from the middle. that's because when i read the first book, i kind of annoyed with the heroine. i'm used to her being a tough as nail and fearless kind of girl, but back at the first book, she isn't like that yet :))
smile_1773@yahoo.com
I love reading series' Eternal Guardian is one of my favorites. I only started reading PNR about two years ago so most new books was already mid-series releases but I went back and got the first one first. I have to start at the beginning.
I have, but not intentionally. I'm really anal about starting a series at the first book.
Hi!
Yes OMG I started the Kresley Cole Immortals After Dark series last year with : Dream of a Dark Warrior, but I fell in love with the characters (Regin is the best) and I backed down until the first one!
Thanks for this giveaway!
Yes I have given a mid-series book a try. One that really worked out well for me was the Immortals After Dark series because I ended up really loving the books! :)
I started the Troubleshooter book in mid-series and really enjoyed it. I can sense some stories in the making and others already written. I had to go back and read those.
I've started mid-series before...and then went back and nabbed the first book. And then the reverse has happened as well..where I went on from there or just stopped completely. I think it's just like anything else...you either like the book or you don't. However, with a series...it's somewhat important...that the author lay SOME groundwork so that if a new reader DOES grab it mid-stream they aren't completely lost. But...it's also important that s/he not waste too much time with that past groundwork as it could frustrate those that already closely follow the series. Thx for the giveaway op! :)

I did by mistake it was the T-FLACK series of Cherry Adair. I was glad that it didn't gave to much , but once I finished the book I began from book one and so on. I was hook, I am happy that I can start from the middle and it didn't ruin anything of the series for me, it just made me want to read it even more.

I have picked up lots of series in the middle but I always have to start at the beginning if that makes since. Meaning the series has been out for years but I can't start in the middle I have to go back to the 1st book.
rarely i try a series in the middle.. i tend to try really hard to try with book one.. or ill buy it, and either go to the library or wait to buy the first books

I have read a mid-series book and then went back and read all of the others before it. I prefer to start a series from the beginning, however. I usually check into the book before reading it to see if it is in a series. I will skim the book and if I like it, I will purchase that one and the previous.
Thank you for the chance to win a copy!
This is my favorite series!
I'll admit, this is the one area in which I'm kind of OCD. I can't think of any UF or PNR series that I've read out of order although I will do it with regular romance sometimes.
I came across a book and did not realize it was mid series. I read it and loved it and had to see if there were more LOL I have since purchased thirteen others in the series - when a good series is good it is good! Thank you for taking the time to share with us today. I have not read the Eternal Guardians yet, but look forward to joining in this world :)
Yes its been plenty of books that I have started well into seriesw but was still interested in reading and started and be sooo happy I did cause I'll love them!
Nope, I have always read a series from the first book.
