Thanks so much to Paranormal Haven for hosting me here! I’m celebrating the release of my new dark vampire romance, In the Service of the King, the first in the Vampire Warrior Kings series. Vampires have always been my first love as a reader and a writer. For me, what makes them so incredibly sex, alluring, and intriguing are their most decadent, illicit characteristics: their animalistic fangs, their deep need for blood, and the way sex and biting and blood are all intertwined in the world of vampires.

And so those were exactly the qualities I sought to write about in In the Service of the King, and I thought I’d give you a couple examples.

For Kael McQuillan, warrior king of the vampires, his fangs respond to his emotions and physical urges:

The way she looked at him sent ripples of electricity through his blood. His fangs elongated. Kael pressed his lips together and dropped his hand, backed away.

And, again:

Kael inhaled and the heady scent of her offering collided with every nerve in his body. He gasped and his mouth dropped open. Though he wouldn’t need them, his fangs stretched out and demanded he taste the thick warm liquid, quench his endless thirst. Ancient instincts whispered dark promises in his ear and urged him to claim her, skin to skin, mouth to throat…

Because they represent his preternatural nature and power, Kael's fangs are also thrilling for the human heroine, Shayla McKinnon. Here's their first kiss:

His large frame bent down over her, surrounding her in his heat. His full lips sucked and pulled at hers and his tongue demanded entrance and exploration, which she freely granted. His hard muscles bunched and thrummed around her, setting her body on fire everywhere they touched. The scent of powerful masculinity filled her nose, and the exquisite flavor of his tongue in her mouth intoxicated her. And, oh God, every time she felt the passing hardness of his fangs as they kissed made her whimper and moan.

Just imagine this moment. The darkly erotic threat of a supernaturally powerful being at your throat:

He pulled away from her mouth and she gasped for breath, then moaned as he trailed open-mouthed kisses and licks and long teasing drags of what had to be his fangs along her jaw and down her neck. He sucked on the pulse point below her ear. “I will take care of you, Shayla,” he whispered. She shivered and tilted her neck for his exploration.

And, since his fangs are so intimately connected to sensory input, I like to think they would be among a vampire's erogenous zones:

Kael fisted his hands in her hair but couldn’t decide whether to pull her away or hold her there forever. Definitely forever. Now that he’d accepted the magic weaving around them, he felt it down deep. Being with Shayla this way was as right as breathing, as drinking blood. Her tongue curled around his right canine and he sucked in a breath and growled. His fangs were so f*cking sensitive and her tongue was relentless.

By the end, Kael's not the only one with a taste for sex and blood:

Shayla’s thoughts had completely devolved to animalistic urges and she reveled in it. The heady spice of his blood—its taste and scent—unleashed an erotic euphoria within her that she didn’t think she would ever be able to give up or live without. So as the thick red spilled down from his neck, Shayla’s whole body ached to have it.
