My first trip to Comic Con (plus giveaway)

After months of planning and (impatiently) waiting, I finally got to go to Comic Con this past weekend. It was my first convention and wow, what an experience. It was bigger in every way than what I thought it would be. There were a lot of great people and panels to see. Even though I didn't get in to see everything I wanted to (don't get me started on the way some of those lines/panels/autographs were planned out) I still had a blast.

The big reason I went is because of the authors. I live in San Jose and even though we're a very large city, authors just don't come here. I saw Comic Con as really my only chance to see some of my authors in person . Alrighty, lets get to this pictures.

Here I am with Rob Thurman. I over heard her telling another fan that some people are not aware she's a woman. So if you're one of those people, surprise!

I also got a chance to meet Diana Rowland, author of Secrets of the Demon and My Life as a White Trash Zombie.

Athenna is the Patricia Briggs fan but since I had to wait in 2 lines in order to meet her so I could get a book signed for Athenna, I thought I'd at least get myself a picture.

As you may be able to guess from the books we're holding up, this is me with author Chloe Neill. I also got the chance to hear her talk on a panel which was pretty cool.

Here I am with Rachel Caine, another one of Athenna's authors I waited in line to meet so I could get a book signed for her (how nice of a friend am I?). She was actually really nice and I was glad to meet her.

Sherrilyn Kenyon, the number one reason I went to Comic Con and I had the pleasure of meeting her twice! I got up early to wait in a VERY long line in order to get a ticket that would allow me into another line for her autograph and I would gladly do it again. She was so nice to everyone. Not that I expected her to be mean or rude, I just thought an author of her magnitude would smile while a fan told her how awesome she is, sign a book, pose for a picture then move on. Sherrilyn gave everyone a friendly greeting and really talked to them. I was so pleasantly surprised by her that when I saw that she had another signing on a different day, I was happy to wait in line again. I got a chance to chat with 2 fellow fans while waiting and the whole experience with her was the highlight of my trip.

Now that you saw who I got to meet, here are some of the things I picked up.

These are my things. I picked myself up the least amount but then again I did get to meet all those fabulous authors. All books (and bag) are signed by the authors.

Since Athenna couldn't go, here's what was on her shopping list for me to pick up. I also picked her up a cool Bite Club book mark (which Rachel signed).

My husband and I were going to go to the comic con but for the price for both of us to go, he said it was too much. He wanted to go for the comic stuff and I had NO idea my authors would be there too! If I had known that I would have dragged his butt down to San Diego SO fast he wouldn't have known what hit him. I am super bummed that I missed Patricia Briggs, I am not surprised her line was long. I have never been to a convention but they look like so much fun!

If I won I would prefer the prize pack 1 because I would like a couple of those books listed but I would be equally as thrilled with prize pack two as well.

I am so jealous of your awesome Comic-Con experience! I've wanted to go for years, but for some reason or another it hasn't came to pass....yet. It's great to see that you had an amazing time! Makes me all the more determined to make it there myself.

Both book/swag prize pack giveaways are pretty sweet and I would love to win either of them!

No need to enter me in the contest. I just wanted to say I am sooo jealous. I am going to DragonCon this year, but ComicCon is the big convention I've always wanted to go to. Unfortunately, it's just too far away and the cost of the trip would have my family eating Ramen noodles for a year.

I am so glad you had fun!!

I would have been a stammering fool especially with Sherrilyn Kenyon! She was the first real paranormal author I read and kicked off my love of the genre and is still one of my all time favorites! I was set to go to one of her signings a year or so ago and ended up breaking my foot the day before and coudn't go.
Glad your trip went so well!

My top choice would be #1 but I would be estatic if I won either one so please include me in both prize packs please.

I'm so glad you had fun. I've always wanted to go to Comic Con but it's way too far for me.

Sherrilyn Kenyon is the best!! I actually met her last year at the RWA book signing in Orlando. She was my first first author visit and signing. Exactly the way you said she was at Comic Con is how she was with us. She even made my boyfriend get in the picture I took with her. She rocks!!

I would love to win the second prize pack.

How did I miss that UF authors would be at Comic Con?!? I think the name needs to change to indicate better what's on offer.

I'd like to be entered to win pack #1 since I can't squeeze into either shirt in pack #2.

(Although I did get to meet Dianna Love the other half of the writing team of the BAD and The Belador series with Kenyon)

That was pretty cool of you to do those things for Athenna, yes Ms YOU ARE an awesome friend =) ... so you really enjoyed comic con? I know you said you did, but I mean: was there A LOT of traffic? too many people that it's hard to move? was food and water expensive? lol seriously tho, I bet with all that walking, meets and greets with authors you would be starving!!
That's cool that you live in San Jose too, sadly I live in fairfield/vacaville. It would have taken me 2 toll gates to get there = $5 EACH for toll <==crazy right!!? I think the toll gate for Frisco is more than that, but still! lol .... It's great that you enjoyed yourself, hopefully maybe next year I could attend too. ^_^

I have been to book signings at two large conferences that were held in Orlando, RT and RWA. I got to meet a ton of authors, took lots of pictures, got as many signed books as I could afford, and lots of fabulous swag. OMG! I'm literally gobsmacked buy your giveaway! Sherrilyn Kenyon is an AMAZING author and I'd die of excitement to win a signed copy of one of her books.
I'd love for her to come Down Under, to Australia, but alas she never has. Still, I'm on the lookout.

I've never been to Comi-con, obviously, seeing as I don't live in the States, but I've been to the Australian version, called SuperNova this year. It's not as good and there aren't really any authors that go, but it was still a fun day. Just everyone's costumes alone made the day for me.

Thanks from the bottom of my heart for this chance and I'm glad you had such a brilliant day---I'm so envious =)

I've never been to a Con sadly, but I agree with you said about the "big" authors like Sherrilyn Kenyon. Last month, I went to my first booksigning ever and it was one of Nalini Singh's during her Kiss of Snow book tour. Since she's a NY Times Bestselling author, she is really popular author. I thought she would be impersonal, but she was so friendly and amazing to the fans! She smiled and chatted with everyone, signed as many books as fans wanted (and some people brought a whole series of hers for her to sign!), and she even hugged fans. I was so happy!

I would love to win prize pack one!

Wow, count me in the jealousy camp. Never been to a Con before, and I would LOVE to meet Sherrilyn Kenyon. She came to my state recently, but I couldn't go to the book signing. She was my first PNR author, and still my favorite. I was so touched reading her keynote speech fromI think RWA. I had no idea he difficulties she has had in her life. Not only is she super talented and very sweet, but a huge inspiration to a wannabe writer. And to all women. If I won, I would love prize pack 1 with both her books. I'm so unbelievably jealous that you got to meet all of those authors! It's like a who's who list of my favourites :) Like a previous poster, I'm in Australia so there's no chance of me getting to Comic Con lol.

I'd like to entered for the first prize pack please :)

I'm so jealous. Comic Con seems great. I wish I could be able to visit it but I live far far away. We don't have like this event in my country.
I would like to enter in for both.
Thanks for the great giveaway and for making it international!

OOo what a great experience! I really wish I lived in America and go to one of those events. I'd love to meet authors, and talk books with other readaholics. And then meeting some of your favourite authors, super cool. And yes, Rob is a man's name, right? And knowing she is a woman, really makes her books rise on my TBR. For some reason I prefer female authors mostly.

I can't choose between the two prizes though. I love signed books, but I also totally love Swag, especially if that includes bookmarks (so anyone who wants to get rid of theirs, mail me!)

I'm SO jealous of your experience! I wish I could go to Comic Con (but I live in Montreal, so that would be a little bit too far!).
Please, enter me for the prize 1. It seems awesome!
Thanks for opening the giveaway to international followers!

I envy those who got the chance to go! I was dying to attend but didn't have enough money to cover travel/room expenses (plus, my parents don't trust me traveling with my friends, and none of the adults had time to go). Even til now, I'm still checking articles, videos, and pictures about SDCC!
Also, I usually attend Wondercon, which is also organized by those who manage SDCC. However, I read that Wondercon might relocate to LA due to space issues, which would deeply disappoint me if that were to happen. :(

I would LOVE to go to Comic Con. It is on my wish list.

Best Con experience is that my other half & I went to a Xena con. It was such a great time, and the best part was a Yoga class with Hudson. She was such a great instructor & it was an amazing experience.

gift pack 1

It sounds like you had a lot of fun though (and you are a good friend for getting those books signed)
