Deuce was born after the second holocaust. In her world you were lucky if you made it to age fifteen, only then did they give you a name. Deuce finally made it and was celebrated at the naming ceremony and named deuce after the first object her blood dropped on.

In this new world that these children ( the eldest being twenty four) live in, is all underground. The children of age are separated into three groups builders, breeders , and hunters. Deuce was proud to finally be called a hunter and she wore her marks with pride. But when paired with the outsider ,whom no one liked since he mysteriously showed up in there enclave, she felt she was being punished for something . Determined to prove herself she pressed on only to find she fell into step with Fade and was glad to have him as a partner protecting her back.

The more she learned about what's out there, the more she had seen that the Elders of their enclave was corrupt and deceitful. When Deuces friend is accused f hording and is facing exile Deuce and Fade step up and took the blame. Now they must venture up to the surface and brave not only the monsters they face in the enclave but other predators they have never faced before.

Enclave is an intense experience. You can't help but become lost in this post apocalyptic world Ann has created. It is not filled with the teen angst most YA books have. Most times when I read YA books I feel like I’m being cheated out of part of the story because there is no sex. I did not feel this way with this book there was so much going on you did not miss the hot steamy scenes. It is very interesting to see this world that Ann has created that these children live in and the dynamics that make their world work for them.
Deuce is a strong likable character. With her will to be the best hunter she could be. I loved her connection to fade. Fade is mysterious , strong and smart. You can't help but fall in love with him. I wish he would have expressed how he felt to Deuce so she wouldn't have been so confused to what she felt and the mixed signs he kept sending her. I hope there is another book so much was left open in the end I'd like to see some more closure.

My second favorite book of the authors that I have had the pleasure to read this year, opened up Enclave and stayed up to finish before bed last night and it was worth missing sleep...

Too bad book 2 does not come out till next year and book 3 in 2013!

Nice review, but not a book for me. I don't like this type of book.
